Rice on the Side

…we all have them, but they aren’t something we like to dwell on, talk about, or really understand all that well. Have no fear - I’ve listed below some helpful points to remember for when those icky situations do arise.

~ First things first, contact the police (911 in case you need their number) to report the accident as well as notifying them if medical assitance might be necessary.

~ Next, turn on your flashers to warn other drivers, and if possible move your vehicle to the side of the road, out of the direct flow of traffic.

~ While you do need to exchange information with the other driver(s) – such as your name, drivers license number, phone number and address, vehicle license plate and state, vehicle year, make, and model, insurance company name and policy number; Do Not accept responsibility for the accident.

~ It’s also a great idea to make a mental note of the time of day as well as any inclement weather/road conditions, and of course any witnesses that might be willing to provide their names and contact information.

~ Once the situation has been handled by the local authorities, the next phone call you need to make is to your friendly insurance agents office, to notify them of the accident.
